When Does an Amateur Writer Become a Real or Professional Writer?

Many folks like to write and some wish to become a writer, of course first they need to learn how to become a writer right? Yes, this is true, but when does an amateur writer become a professional writer? One would say by definition as soon as you actually sell something, but in reality it is the day you decide to try to sell something.

You see my fellow writer, you are a Writer or an Author when you reach the point that you know. No one can take that away from you and this “Professional” or “Legitimate Author” syndrome and the approval from another is bogus.

The day you feel you are a writer, You Are!!! And the day you get paid for your first article, eBook, short story, essay or whatever you are a Professional Writer or Author and once that happens you are indeed by Full Definition a Professional Writer.

Indeed, that is the truth of it. To take that away from anyone who writes articles online and submits them to one of the top online article websites or who works hard to author quality articles is not fair.

Currently, at just over 10,000 articles if I wish to call myself an Author, I have the right, without my other eBooks that have over a 3 million views each on my websites since 1999 or the co-Authored Franchise Book, published by Dearborn in 1998 and still available at Barnes and Noble today and god only knows how many of those have been sold.

Indeed if I wish to call myself a hobby writer in my retirement, I may do that too. It works both ways. I certainly hope this article is of interest and that is has propelled thought. The goal is simple; to help you in your quest to be the best in 2007. I thank you for reading my many articles on diverse subjects, which interest you.

Once an author gets a following and becomes very popular it really makes sense to switch to writing more eBooks. Why? Well it is simple you make more money in royalties. In fact a really popular writer can make a deal to receive 75% to 85% or more on even the most popular Internet eBook Publisher or Distribution Site. Commonly eBook authors make 50% of the amount collected on the eBooks they sell on the most popular distribution sites.

Recently I was able to negotiate 65% split on my share of the royalties of my next eBook, along with free editing for spelling and sentence structure. This negotiation was able to be accomplished for a couple of reasons. First, I have now achieved semi status as a writer by becoming the Most Prolific online article writer on the Internet in the history of mankind and secondly because I am able to write on unique subjects and popular topics as a veteran in my Industry.

As a published author and online writer I have a little bit of pull in this regard and yet imagine the amount of pull for a famous writer. An extremely well-known writer could be beneficial to an online eBook distributor website. In fact if I can negotiate a 65% split due to my small contributions and having only been in business of writing for 16 months, imagine what a super star writer or author could negotiate? Consider all this in 2006.

Techniques for breaking writer’s block

Every writer, young or old, amateur or professional, will experience that dreaded of all possibilities—writer’s block— that time when ideas are absent, words will not come, and the writer’s confidence is shaken.

What can the writer do? Here are a few suggestions that might be fitted to each writer’s situation.

1. Writer fast and free—write anything. Even this will not work some time.

2. Write in a journal. Many writers use this to assure that they will have something to say.

3. Talk into a tape recorder and play it back; then write it down.

4. Review old material, a discarded article, or any other manuscript. You might be surprised at what you find and enthusiasm will return.

5. Switch to an entirely different genre. If you are a short story writer, try an essay or an article.

6. Do something physical. Take a walk, play a game, do push-ups. Get you mind off writing.

7. Read a new article, a new story, or a new book.

8. Catch up on your bookkeeping.

9. Talk to a writer friend.

10. Work on your website, or build one.

11. Write your great ideas down.

12. Be careful where you stop—stop your daily writing before whatever you are writing is finished.

Not all these techniques will work for you, but one might although you must remember that writing involves hard work and dedication, seldom inspiration.

Is It Important to be a High-Volume Prolific Writer?

Many online article writers are extremely competitive in writing the most articles each month online, but is it really all that Important to be a High-Volume Prolific Writer? After all an online article author could just as easily be the very BEST writer instead of the most prolific? An online article writer who posts to online article submission websites could also be the top writer or article author in a specific category for quality or volume.

Online article authors need to choose which goal makes the most sense for them. An online article writer or author needs to consider this thoroughly and needs to choose what they are best at. There is nothing wrong with being the top most prolific online article writer on the Internet in the history of mankind like me or the best writer on a particular online article submission website, which an online author could be IF their articles are good enough to capture such a title, although what is the best is often subjective of the readers preferences and tastes.

Some like their information fast and furious and other prefer those articles with flowery writing which best epitomizes fine literature. Personally as a high-volume prolific writer of online articles, well I prefer quantity, because that is absolute, whereas the best writer has to do with personal preference of the reader. Please consider this in 2006.
